53rd day of our blog

 Hello Readers,

Today is 53rd day of our blog.  I hope you will like it.  So here we go………

 Famous food of Karnataka

Chow Chow Bath

For those who like to eat spicy and sweet at the same time, Chow chow Bath is just the Karnataka food for you. It is a two-in-one dish; Khara Bath and Kesari Bath. While Khara Bath is the spicy Upma made with peanuts and vegetables, Kesari Bath is sweet Halwa which gets its orange colour from saffron. Both these delectable dishes are made with semolina (sooji). It is Karnataka’s favourite breakfast meal.

A lovely breakfast combo of sweet & savoury semolina. Each balancing the other so well – takes your taste buds to experience flavours and aromas on a different level. It is however a bit of extra work as you need to make two items and serve them as a combo. The sheera/kesari bhath is typically made with loads of pure ghee – so much that it oozes out of it and hence it is usually served on a banana leaf which can be discarded after the meal is finished and one can do away with scrubbing greasy dishes. However, if you are health conscious do adjust the amount of ghee and sugar to suit your taste buds.

Karnataka Culture - Know about tradition

Ugadi Celebrations

The word Yugadi is derived from Sanskrit words “Yug” & “Adi”. Yug refers to the era and Adi means the beginning. Ugadi is celebrated in high spirit in the southern states of India that comprise Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Puducherry.

Ugadi festival is celebrated to mark the beginning of the new year. And Karnataka new year falls on the first day of Hindu Chaitra Month. Ugadi Pachadi is the main dish prepared and served on Ugadi. Yugadi Krit or creator of Yugadi has been conferred on Lord Vishnu as mentioned in the Sahasranama Stotram and is believed to be the reason behind the Yugadi celebration.

Kannada people decorate their house with Mango leaves known as Torana and draw colorful designs known as rangoli in front of their entrance. “Panchangam” is read out by the eldest member of the family or the village priest on this day.
