Hello Readers,

Today is 59th day of our blog.  I hope you will like it.  So here we go………

Famous food of Karnataka

Goli Baje

Goli Baje is a popular Coastal Karnataka snack item. Goli Baje is also referred to as Mangaluru Bonda as it is believed to have originated in the coastal city of Mangaluru.

Goli Baje is light and fluffy. It is crispy outside and soft inside. Goli Baje is made out of maida flour, with added ingredients such as curd, coconut gratings, coriander, ginger and curry leaves. Flour mix is allowed to ferment to get a tangy flavor. Baking soda/sour curd might be used as an alternate for quicker preparation. Small balls made of this flour mix are fried in a pan till the outer layer turns brown. Goli baje is easy to prepare because of simple ingredients and cooking process.

Goli Baje is served with coconut-coriander chutney. A typical plate of Goli baje comes with 4-5 small units of Goli baje, hence it is very convenient to share with friends. A cup of coffee or tea goes very well with goli baje as evening snacks. Goli baje is purely vegetarian and best consumed when it is still hot.

Where to get Goli Baje: Most restaurants and eateries in Coastal Karnataka serve Goli Baje during evening hours. Goli Baje is also likely to be available at various Udupi restaurants across the state.

56th day of our blog

Hello Readers,

Today is 56th day of our blog.  I hope you will like it.  So here we go………

Famous food of Karnataka

Rava Kesari

Rava kesari is a sweet dish from South Indian cuisine. “Rava” is a South Indian word for “semolina” and “Kesari” is an Indian word for “orange or saffron color”, which is the key ingredient in the dish. So rava kesari literally means “semolina that’s been prepared with orange color”.

Rava kesari is a traditional South Indian dessert made with semolina, sugar, ghee, nuts and raisins. Also known as kesari bath, this 25 minutes sweet is super simple to make, a total crowd pleaser and needs only pantry ingredients. This is a perfect dessert for every occasion, be it a festival, celebration or a weekend family breakfast.

While making rava kesari, artificial kesari color is added to impart a bright orange color to the dessert. Most often a powder or liquid color is added. However this can be easily replaced with saffron strands. If you do not have saffron use natural edible color.

Kesari is made in most South Indian households & even in Temples to offer the Hindu Gods or deities during Pooja, festivals & auspicious days like Ganesh chaturthi, Navratri, krishna ashtami etc.

A lot of us also eat rava kesari as a breakfast or as an after meal dessert. It is made so often on every other occasion since it is very quick and simple to make.
